Bill 47 came into effect on January 1, 2019. This Bill repeals sections of the Fair Workplace, Better Jobs Act 2017 (known as Bill 148).
The main changes are as follows:
Minimum wage: Minimum wage will remain @ $14/hr until the year 2020, at this time it will be re-examined.
Personal Emergency Leave: Has been replaced with the following:
– 3 days unpaid Sick Leave
– 3 days unpaid Family Responsibility Leave
– 2 days unpaid Bereavement Leave
Public Holiday Pay: Will no longer be based on the averaging public holiday pay formula prescribed by Bill 148, returning to the prorating public holiday pay formula (based on 4 previous week’s of work prior to the holiday).
